Note: If you're installing the PicBasic Pro demo version compiler, please complete the demo compiler installation prior to installing MicroCode Studio. MicroCode Studio will scan your system during the install. Installing the PicBasic Pro compiler demo first will make the installation of MicroCode Studio much easier. A free copy of MicroCode Studio is supplied on the Micro-Bot CD-ROM. To install MicroCode Studio click the link HERE or copy the executable from the CD-ROM to your hard drive, then locate and click the executable mcstudio.exe to begin the installation process. Some newer versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer will show the following screen when you click the mcstudio.exe link above. This is normal. To install MicroCode Studio now, select Open. To save the executable file to your hard drive select the Save option. You can also click the executable on the CD to begin the installation process.
Note: All of the Micro-Bot code examples were created with MicroCode Studio. Code examples shown in color on individual project pages were saved with the MicroCode Studio save as .htm option. Just one of the many excellent features you'll get with Micro-Code Studio. MicroCode Studio will automatically scan for the PICBasic PRO demo compiler when started for the first time. If you have another microEngineering Labs compiler installed (for example, the standard version) you will need to manually point MicroCode Studio to the correct installation folder. To do this, select VIEW...PIC BASIC OPTIONS from the main menu. Make sure the 'Compiler' tab is selected. Next, press the 'Find Manually...' button and select the folder containing the demo version of the compiler. Introduction: MicroCode Studio is a powerful visual Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with In Circuit Debugging (ICD) capability designed specifically for microEngineering Labs PICBasic PRO compiler. The code explorer allows you to automatically jump to include files, defines, constants, variables, aliases and modifiers, symbols and labels that are contained within your source code. It's easy to set up your compiler, assembler and programmer options or you can let MicroCode Studio do it for you with its built in auto search feature. Compilation and assembler errors can easily be identified and corrected using the error results window. MicroCode Studio even comes with a serial communications window.
After installing MicroCode Studio, open & review the extensive help file for setup options and more information. MicroCode Studio also includes a large portion of the PicBasic Pro compiler manual in the help file. As shown below, select the 16F628 from the drop-down menu when you start MicroCode Studio if you're using the default PIC16F628 shipped with Micro-Bot. This informs the compiler you'll be compiling your code for the PIC16F628.
Next, setup the PicBasic Options as shown below.
Setup options include selecting & setting up the default programmer, compiler, assembler, and several other options. Refer to the MicroCode Studio help file for detailed instructions.
